Curcuma Longa (standardized 95 % Curcuminoids), has been reported to modulate growth factors, enzymes, transcription factors, kinase, inflammatory cytokines, and proapoptotic (by upregulation) and antiapoptotic (by downregulation) proteins.¹ This polyphenol compound, alone or combined with other agents, represents an effective supplement during cancer therapy. Laboratory and animal research suggests that curcumin may prevent cancer, slow the spread of cancer, make chemotherapy more effective and protect healthy cells from damage by radiation therapy. Turmeric and black pepper each have health benefits, due to the compounds curcumin and piperine. As piperine enhances curcumin absorption in the body by up to 2,000%, combining the spices magnifies their effects. Pipper Nigram Extract may reduce inflammation and improve digestion, particularly in supplement form. Piperine seems to play a role in the death of certain cancer cells as well, which can decrease your risk of tumor formation, while other research indicates it, too, might inhibit the growth of cancerous cells ² Resveratrol, a natural stilbene and a non-flavonoid polyphenol, is a phytoestrogen that possesses anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and anti-cancer properties. It has been reported that resveratrol can reverse multidrug resistance in cancer cells, and, when used in combination with clinically used drugs, it can sensitize cancer cells to standard chemotherapeutic agents.³ Cancer preventive activities of Green Tea Extract and its main constituent, (−)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) have been extensively studied by scientists all over the world. EGCG inhibited self-renewal and expression of pluripotency-maintaining transcription factors in human cancer stem cells.⁴ Bromelain has anti-inflammatory properties, bromelain prevented blood clotting and decreased. Astaxanthin treatment is an effective method of reducing the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells. Astaxanthin has shown demonstrated a consistent ability to reduce multiple types of cancer.⁵ Selenium may help reduce fatigue and nausea in young patients. A clinical trial suggests that selenium supplementation can reduce the swelling that occurs in patients who have undergone extensive surgery or radiation therapy. Due to its anti-oxidant, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory activity, quercetin has been studied extensively as a chemoprevention agent in several cancer models. Quercetin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of a wide range of cancers such as prostate, cervical, lung, breast, and colon. ⁶ Lycopene quenches singlet oxygen, scavenges free radicals, and prevents the oxidative damage of DNA. Thus, it prevents potential transformation of normal cells to cancer cells. It also modulates gene functions, carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes, apoptosis, and immune function. ⁷ Gamma-Linolenic acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (FA) is an attractive concept as anticancer agent because it exerts selective cytotoxic on human breast cancer cells without affecting normal cells. Retinyl Acetate plays important roles in cell development and differentiation as well as cancer treatment. Lung, prostate, breast, ovarian, bladder, oral, and skin cancers have been demonstrated to be suppressed by retinoic acid.</p> Accumulating evidence suggests that Vitamin B3 plays a role in cancer prevention and therapy. Phase III clinical trials have confirmed its clinical efficacy for non-melanoma skin cancer chemoprevention or as an adjunct to radiotherapy against head and neck, laryngeal, and urinary bladder cancers.⁸ There are studies where patients were supplemented with a daily dose of CoQ10, resulted in increased antioxidant levels, decreased cytokines plasma levels and reduced cancer biomarkers. Clinical trials of N- Acetyl Cysteine suggest potential to reduce cancer-treatment toxicities. Zinc may help to reduce some symptoms caused by radiation therapy in head and neck cancer patients. It was also shown to improve survival in patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Optimal levels of zinc may also reduce the risk of various cancers.
